Hank Pitcher

"I grew up on the coast of Southern California and I have been painting the vanishing beauty of that landscape for over 25 years. I work on my paintings outside, in front of the subject, because I like to be in nature, and because I cannot get what I want from sketches, or photographs, or from memory. Sometimes I return to an area for many years before I feel I have a clear idea about it. But the landscape painting has always been about our evolving relationship with the land we live on. I want my paintings to be about the present and I believe I have to be present to be a part of traditional painting."
  --Hank Pitcher
